The TEC vaporizer is a precise mechanical device which provides close tolerances and reliable performance in a corrosive environment. To maintain calibration, the unit must be handled with care. In more than ten years' experience, Primary Medical has developed packaging, procedures, and guidelines which can assure that the vaporizers we service retain their calibration as long as possible and perform reliably in your installation.
Handling
Many parts of the vaporizer's exterior appear to offer convenient handles for its transport or adjustment. However, none of them should be used for that purpose; lifting or adjusting a vaporizer should always be done with two hands, one on each side of its body.

Lifting the unit by the adjustment dial is likely to disturb the internal adjustments and its calibration. Handling it by the funnel fill or other protuberance can create leakage. The apparent sturdiness of the exterior of the vaporizer is misleading: it is connected to delicate mechanisms inside. In a word: "Two hands are not just for beginners any more!"
Packaging
Correct packaging of the vaporizer for shipment is important in minimizing damage and in ensuring that calibration is maintained. We have experimented with standard and custom foams and other specialized materials, and find that a simple, double-box approach works best.
I. An interior box should be a close fit to the unit itself
2. An exterior box should be at least an inch larger in each dimension.
3. The unit is placed into the interior box which is then sealed loosely to keep the packing material out.
4. A nest of packing material (crumpled or shredded newspaper, or plastic «popcorn" for example) encloses the inner box within the exterior one. At least a half inch of compressed packing material should separate the boxes on each side.
5. The outer box should be sealed with a strong shipping or strapping tape.
6. Verify by shaking the finished package that there is no detectable displacement of the interior box or of the vaporizer within it.
Shipping
Our experience suggests that United Parcel Service provides rapid, reliable delivery at reasonable cost. Standard service is economical, where second-day and next-day will reduce turnaround at moderate expense. Federal Express and other services also have been used by our customers without problems, but we have standardized on UPS for shipment from our facilities. We do not recommend the Postal Service due to a history of problems with handling and with delivery schedules.
Regardless of the carrier used, we strongly recommend that you purchase additional insurance commensurate with the value of the vaporizer, but not less than $ 1,000. Supplemental insurance not only covers any cost which might result from loss or damage, but also appears to improve handling and to facilitate locating a strayed package.
Primary Medical returns maintained vaporizers via standard UPS unless directed otherwise; if you request premium shipping service, the additional cost will be reflected in your invoice.
